Local Anaesthetic Infiltration (LAI)

Hip and knee replacement surgery is traditionally a painful operation often requiring large doses of painkillers. These can have side effects such as nausea, vomiting and constipation.

To overcome this problem, I aim to use an infiltration of a large volume of local anaesthetic to numb the operated area. This gives excellent pain relief and may allow earlier mobilization and quicker discharge from hospital. With less nausea patients are better able to concentrate on their rehabilitation and a more rapid return to normal activity.
